Fagan on the mark again as Bohs stroll to win
It was just the comfortable workout boss Pat Fenlon would have wanted ahead of next week’s Europa League trip to Slovenia as a Killian Brennan penalty sealed Bohs’ fourth win on the spin as bottom side Galway lost for the 16th successive league game.
Galway’s ongoing financial problems saw them put their entire squad up for sale and Sean Connor lost seven senior players during the week as Shaun Kelly, Shaun Maher, Gary Curran, Karl Moore, Steve Feeney, Joe Yoffe and Greg Fleming departed the club.
On trial at Bradford City, goalkeeper Fleming’s leaving meant a league debut for Conor Wynn. And the teenager’s first touch saw him pick the ball out of his net after just 75 seconds.
Mark O’Reilly’s quick throw. picked out Fagan in the box and the in-from striker turned adroitly to fire past Wynn.
Wynn showed his worth with agile stops from Killian Brennan twice and Flood twice to keep Galway in the game at half-time.
The post then came to Galway’s rescue three times inside as many minute around the hour mark.
First O’Brien’s shot was deflected to Fagan who shot off Wynn’s left upright. The same post was there again as Fagan was put through only to see his effort come back out.
O’Brien then whipped over a super cross from the right for Fagan to meet it with his head. But again, the ball came back off the woodwork, this time Wynn’s right hand post.
A needless tug by Galway skipper Paul Sinnott on substitute Aidan Downes gifted Bohs a 74th minute penalty which Brennan duly blasted to the roof of the net.
