Sky duo in sexism row

THE Sky Sports dream team of Andy Gray and Richard Keys could be forced into a grovelling apology after questioning whether a female assistant referee knew the offside rule during Saturday’s clash at Molineux.

The commentators, who believed their microphones were not turned on, were recorded making disparaging remarks about assistant referee Sian Massey before the game.

Massey in fact made a key call by refusing to rule Raul Meireles offside in the build-up to Liverpool’s opener — a decision replays showed was correct.

They also blasted West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady for writing a column about sexism in football in a weekend newspaper.

Commenting on 25-year-old Massey, Keys ranted: “Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her.”

Gray replied: “Can you believe that? A female linesman. Women don’t know the offside rule.”

Keys said: “Course they don’t. I can guarantee you there will be a big one today. Kenny (Liverpool manager Dalglish) will go potty. This isn’t the first time, is it? Didn’t we have one before?” Keys later said: “The game’s gone mad. Did you hear charming Karren Brady this morning complaining about sexism? Do me a favour, love.”

Brady had said she had “experienced sexism at its rankest, lies about my personal life and a level of calculated mischief that is simply appalling”.

And after hearing the Sky Sports duo’s remarks, she commented: “This just sums up everything I said.”

Keys has previously been caught out calling Theo Walcott a ‘stupid little boy’ while believing his microphone was off.
