Rooney incurs the wrath of RTÉ pundits
In a hard-hitting statement Rooney accused United of lacking ambition but didn’t comment on reports that his unhappiness at Old Trafford was linked to the terms of a contract extension he was offered by the club.
Both Brady and Giles argued that the omission of any mention of a pay rise meant Rooney’s statement lacked credibility.
“It’s open warfare now,” Brady said of Rooney’s statement.
Giles added: “He’s not saying he’s unhappy in this statement about a deal. What he’s saying is the assurances he was seeking for strengthening the squad weren’t there.
“I think if he’s said I’m disappointed with the financial arrangements and want to go, I would look at that with more credibility.”
