Coppell quits City and football management

STEVE COPPELL resigned as Bristol City boss yesterday and retired from football management after just two competitive matches with the npower Championship club.

Coppell, who lasted just 33 days as Manchester City boss in 1996, has been replaced by assistant Keith Millen who has signed a three-year deal to replace the 55-year-old.

Coppell agreed a one-year rolling contract after replacing Gary Johnson at the end of last season, but his Ashton Gate tenure got off to a bad start as his side were beaten 3-0 at home by newly-promoted Millwall on the opening day of the season.
