Cork players get paid

DESPITE the postponement of this weekend’s Liverpool Legends match at Turner’s Cross because of bad weather, Cork City appear to have entered somewhat calmer waters after a turbulent season off the pitch.

Cork players get paid

Yesterday was pay-day for the players and, unlike on other occasions this season, it appears to have gone smoothly, with the PFAI last night confirming all City players were paid as per the agreement put in place between the club and the players’ union in September.

Meanwhile, with the club having already submitted its application for a license for next season, it’s understood chairman Tom Coughlan met with FAI Compliance Officer Padraig Smith to discuss related matters. A meeting between Coughlan and FAI Chief Executive John Delaney is also planned.

The bad news on Leeside, however, concerns the postponement of this weekend’s Liverpool Legends match as well as associated events. “I am absolutely gutted that we have fallen foul of the terrible weather,” said Cork City’s Head of Commercial Activities, Kevin Mullen.

In a statement, the club said that all bookings and ticket purchases will remain valid, adding: “We respectfully ask you all to bear with us until the new date is finalised before enquiring about refunds etc.”
