Ramsey: We can go all the way

AARON RAMSEY is convinced Arsenal’s young Gunners can go all the way in the Carling Cup this season.

Ramsey: We can go all the way

Manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he will continue the policy of giving youngsters some much-needed first-team exposure when Coca-Cola Championship leaders West Brom come to Emirates Stadium for tonight’s third-round tie.

Wales international Ramsey was part of the side which reached the quarter-finals last season before they were beaten 2-0.

The 18-year-old sees no reason why the latest crop of talented young Gunners should not continue their progress.

“Of course it is a competition we can win, even if the manager fields a young team,” Ramsey declared.

“We can win any competition.

“No matter what the side is, we have the same mentality to win every game and to win every competition if we can.”

Ramsey added: “It is good that the manager uses the competition to give some youngsters a chance and it is a good opportunity for us to show what we can do.

“It gives us experience and helps us to get used to the surroundings and big crowds.”

Ramsey will turn 19 on St Stephens’ Day, and has already established himself as a member of Wenger’s regular first-team squad, making six appearances from the bench already this season and scoring in the 4-1 Barclays Premier League win over Portsmouth.

The former Cardiff midfielder feels he has come a long way in a relatively short space of time following his move to Emirates Stadium during the summer of 2008.

“My awareness is better and my touch has improved,” he said.

“I don’t give the ball away as much as I used to, but all of that comes with experience and, hopefully I can continue improving and start playing league games as well.”

Ramsey added: “I don’t just want to be the guy who starts in the Carling Cup.

“I am still only 18, but I am like every other player – I want to start every game and do well for Arsenal.”
