Fergie on alert but on-loan Campbell targets Spurs Euro glory

FRAIZER CAMPBELL wants to win the UEFA Cup with Tottenham this season — but his target could be at odds with plans Alex Ferguson has for him.

Ferguson loaned Campbell to Spurs on deadline day and last week stated he “could pull him back in January”, while Spurs are adamant they have the striker for the rest of the campaign.

The 21-year-old will start for Spurs against NEC Nijmegen this evening when Harry Redknapp’s side can take a huge stride towards the next stage of the UEFA Cup, and their on-loan youngster has designs on winning the trophy.

“Winning the UEFA Cup would be a great thing,” Campbell said. “If I could win it I would be more than happy with how the season has gone.”

Campbell may want his long-term future at Old Trafford but he is currently in good form for Spurs and wants to build on his three goals in his last three appearances.

Campbell said: “Obviously you would like to be settled somewhere eventually and when the time comes for me to make that decision I will.’’

Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Mark Hughes believes this evening’s trip to face UEFA Cup Group A leaders Schalke will be an invaluable learning experience for his team.

Hughes said: “We are young and in terms of European experience as a club these are the experiences that will help the team and club to grow.”

Hughes will be without the services of attacking talisman Robinho, who picked up an ankle injury in the Arsenal match.

Meanwhile Portsmouth manager Tony Adams has warned his team it is “feet on the floor time” as he looks to maintain his focus on retaining Pompey’s Premier League status.

Adams will be missing a raft of key players for AC Milan’s UEFA Cup visit to Fratton Park tonight.

The former Arsenal defender insists his main focus is on domestic matters. He said: “Our priority has got to be the Premier League and staying in it.’’
