Winning is McClaren’s only option

IT WAS one of Steve McClaren’s coaching heroes, gridiron legend Vince Lombardi, who coined the phrase: “Winning is not everything, it is the only thing.”

Rarely can that sentiment have been applied more appropriately to a sporting encounter than when McClaren sends out his England side in the European Championship qualifier against Estonia in Tallinn tonight.

Win and McClaren can spend the summer pondering over the merits or otherwise of allowing David Beckham to commute from the US.
