Chawke and cheese

AH, the great wheel of life.

Chawke and cheese

Well-known publican Charlie Chawke tells me that he was a life-long Leeds United supporter who literally shed tears when his beloved team succumbed to a shock defeat by Sunderland in the FA Cup final of 1973. Little did Charlie know then that, one day, he would be part of the Drumaville consortium which has helped to propel the Black Cats into the Premiership.

And every time he visits the Stadium of Light now, he passes the statue outside of 70s manager Bob Stokoe frozen in the act of joyfully bounding across the Wembley turf at the final whistle on that famous afternoon 34 years ago.
