Signings charge caps Curbishley’s week as Hammers take pounding
If the Hammers are found guilty they could be docked five Barclays Premiership points, a penalty which would almost certainly condemn them to relegation.
As it is, West Ham are clinging to top-flight status by their fingernails.
The Hammers are nine points from safety heading into tomorrow’s clash with Tottenham and their last 10 games of the season include Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
And Curbishley has endured a series of unwanted distractions as he tries to impose some order at a club that seems to be spiralling towards the Coca-Cola Championship.
Heated words were exchanged in the changing room after the debacle of last weekend’s 4-0 defeat to Charlton, during which Curbishley is reported to have told Anton Ferdinand he had no future at the club.
Curbishley then had to deal with bailiffs demanding entry to West Ham’s training ground because Carlton Cole was alleged to have owed £800 in unpaid London congestion charge payments.
It was confirmed on Thursday that Ferdinand is to stand trial over an alleged brawl outside an east London nightclub.
More than 1000 fans have signed a petition to scrap the prestigious Hammer of the Year award because they believe none of the players deserve the honour.
And then yesterday, West Ham were charged by the Premier League for breaching rules over player registration.
Curbishley admitted: “It’s not been the best week. It is just one thing after another. I have had a really difficult 10 weeks. It has been topsy-turvy.”
West Ham have won just once in 11 Premiership games since Curbishley took charge.
