ALMOST one million people tuned into RTÉ’s coverage of the World Cup Final between Italy and France on Sunday.

The audience peaked at 971,000 during the penalty shoot-out, with an average viewership of 610,000.

The figure, the largest for any World Cup game, garnered a 47% audience share.
