Keane: I wanted to say goodbye

ROY KEANE believes Tuesday’s Old Trafford testimonial will bring a sense of closure to his Manchester United career.

Keane has previously expressed a distaste for testimonial’s and his decision to accept United’s offer to play his current club Celtic has attracted criticism from some fans’ groups even though the likely £2.5m receipts from a sell-out crowd are set to be donated to charity.

Keane thought long and hard before agreeing to the game but, after leaving the Red Devils so suddenly following an immense contribution over the previous 12 years, felt it was the right move to play the game.

“I was not sure I was going to have a testimonial but I thought about it and knew it was a chance to have a sense of closure, and for me and the fans to say our goodbyes. I feel it is the right thing to do,” he said.
