Limerick side rise to the challenge to lift Cup

Maymount might well have been lifting the cup themselves but for a brilliant first half penalty save by Wembley keeper Darren Glasheen.

Wembley had made the brighter start but their defence seemed to panic as Maymount had their first attack in the 15th minute. Richard Gettings was fouled in the scramble but John O’Sullivan’s penalty was well saved by keeper Darren Glasheen.

Maymount had further chances after that but fell behind twelve minutes into the second half. Then Irish U15 international Shane Tracey rolled a 20-yard free short to man of the match Thomas Clarke. His shot broke to Ajoung and his effort was turned away. From the resultant corner Ajoung powered in the winner, his close range header giving keeper Jamie Clerkin no chance.

The Cork side, who had come from two goals down, tried their best to mount another comeback and gave the Wembley defence few anxious moments but the Limerick lads held on and skipper Danagher received the trophy from the FAI’s Milo Corcoran.
