Newcastle mauling took us by surprise

ALTHOUGH we were confident going into Saturday’s game at St James’ Park, I’ve got to admit I was very surprised to come away with a 6-2 win.

Newcastle have a great record at home this season and although the fixture has produced a lot of goals in recent years, I don’t think anyone expected us to cut through them in the way we did.

I think a lot of people were watching us on Saturday to see how we would respond after the Real Madrid game and we certainly proved the result hasn’t had any lasting or negative effect on us.
