German match-fixing referee released on bail

Dominik Marks is still being investigated on three counts of fraud and attempted money laundering and had to surrender his passport before being released.

Marks is suspected of fixing three third-division games, one has been ordered to be replayed and he denies all accusations.

He was arrested on March 9, making him the second referee to be taken into custody after Robert Hoyzer, who admitted receiving bribes to fix games for a ring of gamblers, was held in February.

Prosecutors are basing their investigation on the confessions by Hoyzer and they are investigating 25 people, including 14 players and four referees, on suspicion of fixing at least 10 games.

The three Croatian brothers accused of masterminding the scheme also have been arrested.
