Blackrock knock out champions
The Cork side, who have won three national titles in as many years, looked a shadow of their former selves in a lacklustre opening half which was characterised by wayward passing and poor finishing.
The second-half was a much more exciting affair. Within minutes of the restart, Vaughan grabbed his first goal, when he latched onto a poor clearance. Vaughan’s shot deceived keeper Padraig Donoghue and bounced into the net.
The goal settled Blackrock and Vaughan notched his second 20 minutes from time, when he headed home a Simon Ward cross.
Nagle pushed forward in an attempt to get back in the game and were
rewarded in the 84th minute when Irish international James Cummins pulled a goal back.
It was too little too late, however, and Blackrock defended stoutly in the final minutes as the champions crashed out.
