Having endured an injury-plagued 12 months and the frustration of a place on the FA Cup final bench, Campbell caught the mood of Double night at Highbury as the achievements of their 1971, 1998 and 2002 sides were celebrated.

Arsene Wenger had been looking for Campbell to deputise for injured skipper Thierry Henry in terms of leadership, stature and inspiration in his first league start of the season. He got all those and more, with Campbell rather more unpredictably replacing Henry as his side’s main goal threat.
