Klinsmann speculation

FORMER international striker Jurgen Klinsmann is the latest name to enter the fray for the vacant Germany manager's job.

The president of the German football federation (DFB), Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder, held talks with Klinsmann in New York on Tuesday “to discuss the future planning for staffing of the national team,” a said DFB spokesman.

It is not clear whether Klinsmann is being considered for the top job vacated last month by Rudi Voller after Germany's miserable Euro 2004 campaign, or whether he will be part of the coaching staff.

The 40-year-old former VfB Stuttgart, Inter Milan and Tottenham star, who won a World Cup medal in 1990, is currently running a sports marketing company in California.

Cameroon's German coach Winfried Schafer was this week reported to be under consideration, but DFB spokesman Harald Stenger said no official contact has been made.
