Fuming Fergie placated by comeback heroics

ALEX FERGUSON headed back to Manchester on Saturday with his temper vastly improved, after Ruud van Nistelrooy and Paul Scholes teamed up to dash Newcastle’s hopes of a famous victory.

The Scot, who had earlier been banished from the touchline by referee Uriah Rennie, watched the Dutchman and his English teammate peg back and then overtake the Magpies from opposite number Bobby Robson's office at St James' Park.

It will be from that same seat that his fellow knight will make his plans after a tough start to the season although he insists he is far from downhearted.
