Jol reveals why he rejected Manchester United position

TOTTENHAM head coach Martin Jol yesterday revealed why he turned down the chance of working with Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

The Dutchman held talks with Ferguson before the start of last season about being the Scot's assistant at Old Trafford, but Carlos Queiroz eventually got the job after leaving Real Madrid.

Jol was eager to move to England but wanted to be manager with control of the team rather than assistant - and the 48-year-old is happy with his decision.
