THE FIRST day of Rio Ferdinand’s disciplinary hearing ended in a wall of silence at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium last night.

After seven hours of deliberations into Ferdinand's failure to take a drugs test at Manchester United's Carrington training ground on September 23, FA representatives refused to offer comment on proceedings until the case was concluded.

It leaves the outcome of the case which could land the 25-year-old a maximum two-year suspension uncertain, although it was not believed Ferdinand has not yet begun to mount his defence against the charge.
