BOBBY ROBSON has been urged to take his settlement dispute with Newcastle to a managers’ arbitration tribunal - but the matter could still end up in the High Court.

Robson urged to settle case at tribunal

The former England boss was sacked at St James’ Park four matches into the season buthas not reached an agreement over the remainder of his contract.

Most Premiership managers will settle with clubs through an independent mediator, with the case referred to a managers’ arbitration tribunal if there is no settlement in 42 days.

But Robson and Newcastleare not using a neutral body, which means the dispute could drag on. The League Managers Association (LMA) are prepared to help Robson to settle the matter.

Chief executive John Barnwell said: “Both parties have tried to make a settlement but not with an independent mediator. Lawyers tend to drag it out and elongate it.”
