Harford dismisses reports Spurs have made £4m move for Reid
It was suggested this week that a £2m down-payment plus an additional £2m based on appearances, would secure Reid’s services.
However, Harford said: “I’ve spoken to our chairman and he’s told me there has been no contact with Daniel Levy which I take to mean there have been no inquiries.
“I’ve not had any phone calls from anyone, so as it stands Andy Reid remains a Nottingham Forest player.”
Earlier this season, Reid had a public falling out with then manager Joe Kinnear after the player had handed in a transfer request at the City Ground.
That row was subsequently resolved, with Reid being reinstated in the first team, but while Kinnear has since parted company with the Championship side, the player’s immediate future remains uncertain.
The Dubliner, who impressed when selected by Brian Kerr in the first phase of Ireland’s World Cup campaign, has made no secret of his desire to play in the top flight, and is widely regarded as one of the hottest young prospects outside the Premiership.
Another Irish international, Richard Dunne, has said he has no plans to go anywhere. Despite interest expressed in the defender by Newcastle manager Graeme Souness, Dunne is reportedly ready for talks about a new deal at Manchester City.
One of the club’s most impressive players this season, Dunne said: “I am really happy here. I feel as though I have improved as a player. I am really settled in my home life and in what I am doing. I would like to sign a new contract.”
After an earlier comeback was halted by injury, Dunne returned to the Irish team for last year’s end of season friendly against Croatia and, after a nervy start, contributed the kind of commanding performance which suggested he will push hard for a centre-half berth for the forthcoming World Cup games.
Meanwhile, former Irish international Steve Staunton is said to have ruled himself out of contention for the Coventry City manager’s job in the wake of the departure of Peter Reid.
