Miller could make surprise Bhoys return

LIAM MILLER could be a surprise selection for Celtic in the UEFA Cup fourth round second leg at Barcelona tomorrow night.

Miller could make surprise Bhoys return

The 23-year-old signed a pre-contract agreement with Manchester United in January and was not expected to play for the Hoops again. But, after proving his fitness after a long-term injury problem, Miller joined his team-mates on the flight to Spain yesterday.

The Cork midfielder said: "The manager asked me this morning how I was, I said fine and that was it. I'm on the plane to Barcelona and we'll see what happens after that. Maybe I'll make the bench but I'm taking nothing for granted.

"There are a lot of injuries but a lot of the young lads have been getting a chance and they've been doing well so I'm probably behind in the pecking order now. I've trained for the last five days but there's only one way to find out if I'm ready for Barcelona.

"I was feeling a bit rusty getting into the swing of things but hopefully my chance will come playing through the games. It was just nice to be back playing again.

"The problem was my pubic bone and hopefully it has settled down now. I hope I've seen the back of it. I came off because I wasn't going to play the full game anyway."

Meanwhile, midfielder Stilian Petrov denies the Hoops have simply to snuff out the threat of Barcelona star Ronaldinho if they are to progress.

Despite Barcelona losing 1-0 in the first game at Parkhead, the Brazilian superstar wowed the Celtic fans and television viewers with a series of tricks and flicks and his stunning goal at the weekend against Real Sociedad in La Liga suggests the 24-year-old is on top form going into the return leg against the Hoops.

Petrov, however, dismissed the notion that the Catalans are a one-man team and said his side will face similar problems to the ones encountered at Celtic Park in the first game.

He said: "Ronaldinho's not the only man in their team we have to look out for, they have another 20 good players. Every player in their team is important, not just him.

"We need to score if we want to go through.

"We're quite confident and we'll go out to win the game as we always do. So it will be a good game to watch."

Since losing in Glasgow in a tempestuous game which boiled over at times Barcelona have been disparaging as to the quality of the Parkhead side's play but the Bulgarian international denies Catalan criticisms will add spice to the Nou Camp clash.

He said: "Everybody has their own opinion but we try to play our game to win and it's up to them to say what they want. But we have our style and we stick to it. We know that we need to keep our discipline and finish with 11 players on the pitch."

With goalkeeper Robert Douglas losing his appeal against suspension after being sent off in the first leg after a incident in the tunnel at half time, young David Marshall is set to start in goal for Celtic.

Despite the daunting nature of Marshall's task, Petrov insists he has every confidence in the 19-year-old replacement.

Petrov also revealed that injured striker Chris Sutton is making progress and could still make it in time for tomorrow night.
