After a goalless first half, Michael Owen and Rooney struck in quick succession to fire England to the top of their group needing only a point on October 11 to clinch automatic qualification to the Euro 2004 finals.

Skipper David Beckham and Steven Gerrard are free to play in Turkey after avoiding the yellow card which would have ruled them out through suspension.
