Probe into post-match row unlikely

OFFICIALS of the eircom League are not expected to enquire into the circumstances surrounding the post-match row between Cork City manager Pat Dolan and Shelbourne’s Pat Fenlon at Turner’s Cross on Monday unless there is a reference to it in one of the match officials’ reports.

Probe into post-match row unlikely

Angry words were exchanged between the two managers outside the dressing-room area more than 30 minutes after the final whistle of a match which Shelbourne won 2-0 to confirm their position as leaders of the Eircom League.

The scene was witnessed by players from both clubs and a small gathering of fans.

However, it is believed that the match referee, John Feighery, was not an observer.

Thankfully the confrontation between the two managers never developed into anything more serious than an exchange of words and raised voices.

That means it is thought unlikely that the referee’s report contained any reference to the argument.

There is always the possibility, however, that the League will institute an enquiry on foot of reports in the newspapers.

As a result of Athlone Town lodging an appeal with the FAI in respect of the deduction of three points and a fine of €2,500 for playing an unregistered player, the deducted points have been reinstated pending the outcome of that appeal.
