Warmuz final piece in Wenger jigsaw
Wenger has been looking to find a replacement for Rami Shaaban, who has a broken leg, and his move for Brazil international Marcos has been at best delayed until the summer.
Ideally, the Arsenal boss wanted a back-up keeper available for Champions League duty in case David Seaman or Stuart Taylor was injured.
However, with the end of the transfer window looming, he signed 32-year-old Warmuz, who appeared for Lens in the competition earlier this season, on a short-term basis.
The Frenchman, who was a free agent after leaving Lens in December, is available for selection after today’s game at home to Fulham.
Wenger, who has deflected interest from Turkish clubs in Kanu, declared: “Nobody is perfect, but I have a perfect squad now. We have cover in every position.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst can play left-back, Oleg Luzhny can play right-back, we have four centre-backs and we have plenty of people in every position.”
Wenger believes this squad is now the strongest he has ever had at Highbury, even compared to his two double-winning line-ups.
“Since Rami Shaaban’s injury, it was very important we brought in another goalkeeper as cover. Of course, we are very pleased to have signed Guillaume.
"He’s a very experienced player and has proved during his time with Lens that he is a very capable goalkeeper.” Warmuz, who has signed until the end of the season, said: “I am delighted to be joining Arsenal. I am looking forward to playing for one of the best clubs in Europe.”
As for Seaman’s future, Wenger revealed: “We’ve had a chat and we’ll talk again at the end of the season. He’s concerned about winning trophies and being at his best until the end of the season.
When you’re 32, you go from year to year. After 40, you go from six months to six months. When you’re my age, you go from day to day!”
