Diop signs for Fulham

FULHAM yesterday signed Senegal international Papa Bouba Diop from French club Lens on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder enjoyed a spell in Swiss football with Grasshoppers before his move to the French club in January 2002.

Diop grabbed the world’s attention when he scored the goal that beat France in the opening match of the 2002 World Cup finals. He made 25 league appearances last season, scoring three goals, and found the target twice in Lens’ UEFA Cup campaign.
