Ferguson confident United don't need new stars to shine

ALEX FERGUSON let the transfer deadline pass without adding to his vast array of Manchester United stars but happy that everyone else was sharing the same playing field.

While Kevin Keegan has been splashing the cash across the city and the likes of Birmingham and Middlesbrough have tried to take advantage of a deflated market by strengthening their squads, Old Trafford has remained quiet.

One move for Sunderland's speedy front-man David Bellion ended in acrimony and a couple of other inquiries came to nothing, leaving Ferguson to settle with his existing troops for the four-month run-in to glory on four fronts.
