Give Giggs deal to see out career at United: agent

MANCHESTER UNITED chief executive David Gill has been urged to break the impasse over Ryan Giggs’ new contract.

Give Giggs deal to see out career at United: agent

The Welshman's present deal runs out in 2006 but so far United have failed to offer Giggs the two-year extension he is hoping for.

Instead, the 31-year-old has been offered a single-season deal in line with club policy with players over 30.

Despite reported interest from Newcastle and Bolton, Giggs has insisted he wants to see out his career with his only professional club and the star's recent outstanding performances against Southampton and Crystal Palace have reinforced his importance to Alex Ferguson's side.

Now the player's agent has urged United's board to give Giggs the deal he is looking for.

"We are not banging on desks and slamming doors," said Harry Swales.

"We are just waiting for the gentlemen in grey suits to get back in touch with us.

"Ryan isn't asking for any more money and he certainly doesn't want to leave Manchester United. If he had his way, he would stay with them for the rest of his career.

"What he does want is a two-year contract and I don't think he is asking for the world.

"Ryan is fit and dedicated and you can't buy the kind of enthusiasm he has amassed.

"We have got on well with the board at United and long may that continue. But just at the moment, the ball is in their court."

Out-of-form Bolton will be fearing the damage Giggs may cause when they head to Old Trafford on St Stephen's Day.

Although Ferguson has confirmed he intends to shuffle his squad around as they head into one of the most intense periods of the campaign, with striking duo Ruud van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha both sidelined through injury, Giggs is unlikely to get much rest.

"We have some alternatives in the striking department because both Ryan and Paul Scholes can play up there," said the United boss.

"The Christmas period is difficult but it is difficult for everyone and maybe it will sort a few things out."

United go into the festive programme nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea and four behind Arsenal, who moved to second spot with their win at Portsmouth on Sunday.

Ferguson will be forced to make one change against Bolton as Quinton Fortune is out with a hamstring strain, although Gabriel Heinze should return following a brief break.
