Saha sets sights on Euro 2004 striking role
Saha, who also scored in his first game for United last month, struck after 76 minutes as the European champions extended their winning run to 14 matches.
Saha made an impact on coach Jacques Santini in the absence of Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet. Santini fielded Saha next to Olympique Lyon’s Peguy Luyindula and labelled the experiment a success.
“These were satisfying debuts for both of them,” Santini said. “They were involved in the first goal and then Saha scored.”
The United player scored when Zinedine Zidane set him up.
“It’s a great honour to receive a ball from Zidane,” said Saha. “I am thinking a bit more about Euro 2004.” Zidane said of Saha: “He’s certainly a bit talented.”
Henry and Trezeguet, France’s first-choice pairing, were injured.
