David Beckham admits there would be a national sense of “failure” if England did not win the Euro 2004 finals this summer.

However, the England captain insists he is not only physically fit, unlike the 2002 World Cup, but, just as crucially, is also mentally prepared.

His frustrations at coverage of his personal life, amid allegations of an affair, did show through as he expressed anger at perceived "disgraceful" treatment of his family by two newspapers and a TV station.
