Portugal name Boa Morte in qualifier squad
Fulham’s Luis Boa Morte returns to favour after his surprise omission from the Euro 2004 squad while the new line-up also marks a new era for Portugal following the retirements of Luis Figo and Manuel Rui Costa.
Fernando Couto, the third member of the so-called “golden generation”, is also not included - but Chelsea’s Paulo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho and Tiago and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo are all in the squad.
Meanwhile, former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger has been included in Austria’s squad to face England in the World Cup qualifier in Vienna on September 4.
Manninger, who now plays for Brescia, is back after a two-year absence from the squad, which will also face Azerbaijan four days later.
