ROBERT HOYZER was a fancy dresser with a permanent tan, his fashionably blond-streaked hair styled with gel. Friends remember the tall, broad-shouldered soccer referee as a ladies' man.

"He has a fashion model's body, great looks and could be mistaken for the brother of actor Richard Gere," wrote the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper of the man once heading for the heights of an international refereeing career.
