Ireland captain Caelan Doris and Leinster teammate Tommy O’Brien have been ruled out of the summer tour to Australia and New Zealand.

Doris started Leinster’s Friday night URC Grand Final win over the Bulls at Croke Park after being a doubt due to a knee injury.

He lasted just six minutes of the 36-7 win with a foot injury eventually forcing him off and with Jack Conan taking his place.

O’Brien hobbled off just before half-time with what has been diagnosed as a groin problem.

They have been replaced by Ulster’s uncapped duo, brothers Bryn and Zac Ward, while Leinster hooker Dan Sheehan will captain the three-match tour.

This is the second summer in a row that Doris will sit out a tour Down Under after a shoulder injury cost him his place with the British and Irish Lions in 2025.
