Play-off chasing Cork Constitution FC have stated that they are “conducting a full internal review” following an incident during their AIL Division 1A victory over Young Munster at Tom Clifford Park, Limerick.

As tempers frayed between the players on the pitch, it is believed hot liquid was thrown by a spectator at a Young Munster player, from a cup. In a video circulating on WhatsApp, it shows the spectator, who was outside the perimeter fence at the Limerick venue, engaging with players after the initial melee between players on the pitch.

The on-pitch incident involved at least a dozen players with several quick to turn their attention to the terraced area in shock.

In a statement which also circulated via WhatsApp on Sunday, the six-time AIL winners explained they are conducting a review of the incident.

“Cork Constitution F.C. is aware of an incident after a match against Young Munster on Saturday, 22nd March. The club is currently conducting a full internal review into the incident. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct and will take appropriate action in line with our disciplinary procedures.

"We wish to acknowledge the strong relationship between Cork Constitution and Young Munster, and we remain in contact with their representatives as we address this matter.

"As this is an ongoing review, we will not be making any further comment at this time.”

The match saw the Temple Hill based outfit prevail on a 30-23 scoreline to keep them in third place and well placed to secure a top four spot – with just two rounds remaining. The Cookies, meanwhile, are seventh after an indifferent season.

Young Munster declined to comment at the time of publication.
