Tadhg Furlong has been ruled out of the Ireland's opening Six Nations game against England in the Aviva Stadium on Saturday (4.45pm) due to injury and has returned to Dublin for further assessment. Connacht's Jack Aungier has been called up to the squad.

Furlong suffered a recurrence of a calf strain in training on Saturday and an update will be issued during the week.

Aungier and Connacht team-mate Caolin Blade will link up with Ireland at their training camp in Portugal on Monday following their URC clash against Glasgow Sunday afternoon.

Leinster trio Jack Boyle, James Lowe and Dan Sheehan joined the squad in Portugal Sunday morning.

Munster coach Mike Prendergast has also linked up with the Irish squad this week ahead of assuming the position of Head Coach of the Ireland 'A' squad to face Bristol next month.
