Munster have confirmed that Alex Codling has joined the province as a forwards coach consultant.

Codling is currently forwards coach with the Irish women's team. The move - flagged by the Irish Examiner on Friday - comes three days after Munster announced forwards coach Andi Kyriacou had departed Thomond Park. 51-year-old Codling joins on an interim basis as the recruitment process for a permanent replacement goes on.

Codling will have a dual role with Munster and the Irish women's side. The women's Six Nations gets underway in March. The former Newcastle Falcons head coach, who also coached the England men's team along with Harlequins and Oyonnax, joined the Ireland set-up at the beginning of the season.
