Schmidt frustrated by missed chances despite win
Leinster head coach Joe Schmidt believes there’s room for improvement despite his side’s hard fought 13-18 victory over Bath at the Recreation Ground yesterday.
The result leaves Leinster in a commanding position on top of Pool 3 on 11 points with their closest opponents Glasgow on 8.
The reigning Heineken Cup champions were forced to dig deep to get a result having fallen behind on 65 minutes thanks to a Matt Banahan try which Olly Barkley converted but two late Sexton strikes earned the visitors the win.
Schmidt’s concern comes from Leinster’s inability to touch down for a try, with all points coming from the boot of Sexton, despite creating several try-scoring opportunities.
"The frustration was that we couldn't get the ball over their line. We appeared to have a couple of gilt-edged chances," he said.
"Against a quality team it's hard to create opportunities, and the last thing you want to do is butcher them like we did. We almost suffocated ourselves at times.
"We want to be a lot more accurate to make sure we finish opportunities that we create, but I am delighted with the result."
