O'Gara gets six weeks to save thousands of euro in property deal

Ronan O’Gara has been given six weeks to marshal his defence to a property deal that could cost him tens of thousands.

The Irish rugby hero is among dozens of investors currently facing court action over alleged attempts to escape from property deals they made at the peak of the boom.

O’Gara, of Belgard Downs, Rochestown, Cork, is being sued by Dublin’s Spencer Dock Development Company Ltd.

The company, of Connaught House, Burlington Road, Dublin, is seeking a “specific performance” order directing the Munster and Ireland out-half to complete a deal for an apartment he allegedly bought at Spencer Dock, North Wall, Dublin.

Spencer Dock Development today sought judgment to be granted against O’Gara by the Dublin County Registrar, Susan Ryan, on the grounds he had defaulted on entering a defence.

Barrister Gemma O’Farrell told Ms Ryan the motion seeking judgment could be struck out with an order for costs against O’Gara in favour of the company.

The County Registrar granted O’Gara six weeks in which to enter a defence to the company’s claim.

He is among dozens of investors who bought apartments at prices many now claim have been decimated by the recession.
