Cork Con romp past Harlequins
Belfast Harlequins 22 Cork Constitution 53
Cork Constitution kept hot on the heels of the Division One pacesetters as they ran amok at Deramore Park today, scoring eight tries in a 53-22 win.
Con romped to their third league win on the trot as they scored six second half tries – including one from replacement flanker Ed Leamy, a younger brother of Munster and Ireland star Denis Leamy – to dump ‘Quins, who had player-coach Andy Ward sin-binned.
Fly halves Daragh Lyons and Michael Glancy traded early penalties before the try glut was kick-started.
Shaven-headed Con winger Cronan Healy touched down on 18 minutes before Ulster lock Rowan Frost replied.
Prop Mike Ross barged over, six minutes before the break, for Con.
The visitors racked up their bonus point by the eighth-minute of the second half – centre Conrad O’Sullivan and Healy grabbed early scores.
‘Quins showed signs of a late revival when promising Ireland Under-21 centre Darren Cave and full-back Mark Kettyle grabbed tries in the space of three minutes.
But by the time of Kettyle’s score in the 76th-minute, the Leesiders were already out of sight and up to third in the table.
Con’s classy backline had dominated the closing quarter – replacement fly half Conor Quaid got in for two tries, full-back Richie Lane slalomed through for another – his eighth in four league and cup games, and Leamy displayed some of his rough diamond talent by scoring with three minutes to go.
