Wales unrest behind Ruddock exit: Woodward

England’s World Cup-winning coach Clive Woodward believes something must have gone “badly wrong” for Mike Ruddock to quit his job with Wales.

England’s World Cup-winning coach Clive Woodward believes something must have gone “badly wrong” for Mike Ruddock to quit his job with Wales.

Ruddock walked out as Wales coach on Tuesday citing family reasons, but since then there has been speculation player power had more to do with it.

Woodward, the former Lions supremo and current director of football at Southampton, is one who believes there is more behind the decision than Ruddock has revealed.

“Something must have gone badly wrong behind the scenes for him to have stepped down,” Woodward, himself no stranger to off-the-field difficulties after a disastrous Lions tour to New Zealand, told the Daily Mirror.

“I can see him being the sort of person who wouldn’t mess around if something wasn’t to his liking – or things were going on – because the job obviously becomes untenable if things are not right behind the scenes.”
