Former England and Lions wing Peter Jackson has died at the age of 74.

The former Coventry threequarter passed away peacefully in a Solihull nursing home after a long illness.

Jackson won 20 caps for England from 1956-63 and impressed during the 1959 Lions tour of New Zealand.

He will be best remembered for a dazzling individual try which earned 14-man England a 9-6 win over Australia in the last minute at Twickenham in 1958.

After retiring from the game Jackson served as fixture secretary, club secretary and president of Coventry and Warwickshire.

Rugby Football Union president Robert Horner said: “All the tributes paid to him are fully justified – he played for Coventry, England and the British & Irish Lions with great distinction.

“Peter went on to become a highly respected administrator within the game, underlining his huge contribution to the sport on and off the field of play.”
