Scotland coach Ian McGeechan cannot see England losing tomorrow’s World Cup final against holders Australia in Sydney.

McGeechan, who is about to become Scotland’s director of rugby, believes England have the players to handle the big occasion and come out on top.

He told BBC Radio Four’s Today programme: “Martin Johnson is the outstanding captain in the World Cup and England have so many good players, and so many big game players, that I can’t see them not winning tomorrow.

“England deserve to come out on top and for us, in northern hemisphere rugby, it would be the best thing for us all if they win.”

England coach Clive Woodward jokingly mentioned that there had been no good luck message from the Scotland camp at his Sydney press conference today.

But McGeechan added: “Don’t worry, there is one on the way and I think I have been as vociferous as anyone in supporting what England are trying to do.”
