Wales coach Steve Hansen insisted there remained great merit in rugby’s smaller nations competing in the World Cup despite the tournament opening with a series of one-sided matches.

England ran in 12 tries to beat Georgia, New Zealand put 70 points on Italy, Uruguay and Fiji were beaten easily by South Africa and France respectively, while the Welsh emerged from what could have been a difficult game against Canada 41-10 victors.
