All Blacks lock Ali Williams has a broken bone in his foot but has not been ruled out of next month's Rugby Union World Cup.

The injury, which was sustained two weeks ago, was revealed by scans after being previously undiagnosed.

Team doctor John Mayhew said it would take time to determine whether Williams would be able to play at the World Cup which starts on October 10.

"Because of the nature of the injury we are consulting with leading orthopedic surgeons to ensure we get optimal treatment," he said.
