Baugh quits international scene
Canada flanker Dan Baugh won’t be playing for Canada at the upcoming World Cup.
The 28-year-old helped Canada get to the World Cup, scoring a try in the team’s 26-9 win against the United States in a qualifying match in Toronto in June 2002, but has reportedly decided to concentrate on his professional rugby career.
“Don’t worry about Danny Baugh. He has declined to play for Canada. Now, you write that...,” Canada coach David Clark said.
Baugh could not be reached for comment, but a member of the Canadian rugby community said he had decided instead to concentrate on playing for his club, Cardiff RFC in Wales.
Baugh, who turns 29 next month, played in all of Canada’s World Cup matches in 1999 and was also on the Canada side that beat Scotland 26-23 last June.
He played for Canada on the country’s under-17, under-19 and under-23 teams, and graduated from
Canada’s under-23 PacificSport Rugby Academy, which is overseen by Clark.
He won his first cap against Japan in Tokyo in 1998.
