Rugby star Jason Leonard will appear before magistrates on Thursday charged with drink-driving, Scotland Yard said tonight.

Leonard, 34, of St Margarets, Twickenham, west London, is accused of being over the alcohol limit while driving on September 15 close to his home.

The Harlequins professional captains his club side and is the most capped forward in the history of international rugby.

Despite the allegation he has continued to play and Harlequins have said he is “innocent until proven guilty”.

Leonard will appear at Richmond Magistrates’ Court.
