Galwegians celebrated the return of their Connacht contracted players with a well-earned victory over table toppers Garryowen at Crowley Park on Saturday.

Garryowen, on their first visit to Glenina in the AIB League, missed out on the chance to gain a bonus point when out half Billy Treacy¹s injury-time penalty was wide.

Galwegians were only 6 - 3 up after half time with the penalty points coming both side¹s respective out halves. However the game¹s crucial try came seven minutes after the restart when Galwegians turned defence into attack and fullback Ger Brady raced in from halfway.

Although Galwegians dominated possession for much of the match, Treacy kept Garryowen¹s hopes alive with three second-half penalties to close the gap to 19 - 12in the 76th minute. However Elwood wrapped up the issue with an 82nd minute effort, significantly easing Galwegians relegation worries.
