Edinburgh confirmed today that captain Graeme Burns sustained a tiny crack to one of the sesamoid bones in his left foot against Munster on Friday.

The Scotland scrum-half’s injury will be reassessed in two weeks time and he is expected to be out of action for two to four weeks.

Manager Ian Rankin said: "It is very disappointing to lose Graeme so early into his captaincy of the team. He has been leading the team and playing very well.

"However the injury gives international scrum-half Ian Fairley, who has looked very sharp this season, an opportunity to stake his claim."
